Probably one of the best jokes in the movie is when Liz’s friend, Dianne, gives Shaun and the rest of the group an acting course of how to properly act like a zombie as not to get detected by the massive hoard that lingers in front of the pub. Not that you need to be smart to get, but you can see each member of each group is a respective clone/copy of each other. After watching the film and looking back, you realize that Ed just gave away the entire plot of the film in a matter of seconds. The name itself is a play on the George Romero’s 1978 classic “Dawn of the Dead.” And there are plenty more jokes like it sprinkled throughout the film. What Shaun of the Dead has over Zombieland is its clever writing and cleverer jokes, some of which can only be noticed by eagle-eye viewers or long time fans of the zombie genre. When picking a scary movie to watch while home alone, it's important to avoid films where the horror takes place while somebody is in the same situation! No scary movies where the protagonist is primarily home alone, like Paranormal Activity or The Strangers. After years of imagining creepy figures out of the corner of my eye or being scared to get up and go to the bathroom in my own home, I've realized that there are certain types of horror movies that are better suited for watching solo. which, post-horror film, can turn into a pretty spooky situation. That means it's just me, my dogs, and an empty house. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't feel the same way, which means that - out of respect for his wimpy side - my scary movie nights are reserved for nights when he's away.
